Estonia–Latvia Trade in H1 2025

-
The first half of 2025 confirmed that trade relations between Estonia and Latvia remain close but are changing.
  • Latvian exports to Estonia: €777.4 million (11% of Latvia’s total exports, 2nd largest market)

  • Latvian imports from Estonia: €645.2 million (~9% of total imports, 4th place)

  • Compared to 2024, Latvian exports to Estonia have already reached 40% of last year’s volume, while Estonian exports to Latvia are at 28% of the 2024 level.

Main product groups:

  • Estonia → Latvia: electricity, wood and furniture, passenger cars, dairy products

  • Latvia → Estonia: grain, sawn timber, machinery and electrical equipment, pharmaceuticals

Key trends in H1 2025:

  1. Falling electricity prices and withdrawal from the BRELL system reduced the value of Estonian exports.

  2. Exports of wood products and furniture increased, while the share of petroleum products declined.

  3. Trade in services (financial and IT) helped balance the flow of goods.

  4. In H2 2025, growth is expected in the wood, machinery, and e-commerce sectors.

Summary:
Latvian exports to Estonia remain strong, while Estonian exports to Latvia are more modest. The outlook for the second half of the year depends on energy market developments and domestic demand.
