Temporary Border Controls at the Poland–Lithuania Border – What Should Logistics Operators Know?

-
As of July 7, 2025, Poland has implemented temporary border controls on its internal Schengen border with Lithuania. Although both countries are part of the Schengen Area, the controls were introduced in response to increased migration pressure on Poland’s eastern border and related security concerns.
📍 Nature of the controls:
- Random vehicle checks are in place, especially at Budzisko–Kalvarija, Lazdijai–Ogrodniki, and Mockava–Trakiszki checkpoints.
- Checks are conducted by Polish police, border guards, and territorial defense units.
- Document checks are selective, but CMR and shipment papers must always be present.

🗓️ Duration of controls:
- Start: July 7, 2025
- Initial validity: until August 5, 2025 (extension likely)

🎯 Recommendation for logistics operators:
Expect possible delays at the border. Keep all documents (including CMR) properly filled out and accessible. Monitor changes in the situation, especially if your shipments are time-sensitive.
